Alluvium Irrigation Bores

Alluvium Boring in the Toowoomba Region

Maximise Your Existing Water Deposits

At Kowaltzke Drilling Services, we provide alluvium boring for rural clients throughout the Toowoomba Region, including Warwick, Highfields and Gatton—all the way south to the Scenic Rim.

Alluvium is a type of deposit that sits on top of soil and it’s typically found along rivers and streams consisting of sand, silt, gravel and organic materials. Alluvial boring is the process of drilling a hole into these deposits to allow water to escape and be used for irrigation. It enables farmers to maximise the use of available resources without fouling their soil. Compared to a domestic water bore, the amount of water that can be pumped out is significantly greater.

How Alluvium Boring Works

The process of alluvium boring can be carried out either mechanically or hydraulically depending on what type of equipment is needed and how deep you need to go. For example, if we drilled too far, we might hit bedrock instead of the alluvium. This would make it difficult to extract groundwater. That's why it's recommended to survey the ground to determine how deep we need to go, as well as other necessary specifications before boring begins.

At Kowaltzke Drilling Services, our Queensland licenced drillers have two rigs at their disposal. They also have plenty of experience locating and constructing large diameter alluvium bores using machine slotted steel or PVC casing and stainless-steel wedge wire screens. They're able to drill in unconsolidated alluvium, in addition to hard rock formations. All bores are cement grouted and gravel packed in line with the relevant Australian standards.
